FEMININITY
A film by Lauren Dowdall & Christian Sullivan

FILM STILLS FORTHCOMING

The film Femininity was originally produced as an entry for the KAN Film Festival, in Lawrence, KS. Lauren Dowdall, who was taking  Video Production - Independent Study had shown some of her poems to the instructor Bob Utt. Mr. Utt was especially impressed with one called Femininity and asked her to begin thinking of some interpretive video images for a possible entry in the Festival. With only two weeks before the deadline, Lauren teamed with Christian Sullivan to visualize the innovative scenes, then shoot and edit, sometimes spending late nights in the school studio. The opening sequence is actually a succession of over 80 still photographs. Other dissolves were done by making creative use of the digital features on the Sony DCR-VX1000 DV video camera. Two Panasonic 1960 VCR’s and a Panasonic MX-12 mixer were used for editing. The video won First Place in the Original Category at the KAN Film Festival.

Lauren Dowdall is currently a freshman at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri, where she is majoring in Mass Communications and Creative Writing. Her poems have been published in school, local, state, and national publications. She is forming a Literary Club at the university with the purpose of fostering creative writing and thought among students and faculty. Although she had previously only one semester of video production In high school, she was named the producer of the school's video yearbook. The video Femininity was responsible for helping Lauren get a scholarship to Lindenwood. She is presently working on contracted productions for Youth In Need and the YMCA, as well as continuing her creative endeavors.

Christian Sullivan became interested in video production during his senior year in high school. Having taken all of the art classes offered at the school, he was looking for another "canvas" on which to "paint". His first video, commissioned by the school district to showcase their computer technology, was so impressive that few believed it was produced by a high school student. His videos have also been entered in the Thoughts and Dreams Video Contest and the International Student Media Festival. He is currently attending Florissant Valley College in St. Louis, MO, on a scholarship, majoring in art.
